‌Ferrero will launch plant-based Nutella in Italy‌.

Ferrero has officially launched plant-based Nutella in Italy in autumn 2024‌, marking the 60th anniversary of its iconic chocolate-hazelnut spread. The new product replaces skimmed milk powder with ‌chickpea and rice syrup‌, designed specifically for vegans and those with lactose intolerance, and has been certified “Vegan Approved” by the Vegan Society.

Identified by its ‌green cap‌, the 350g jar is initially available in Italy, France, and Belgium, with plans to expand to other European markets. Although free from animal ingredients, it is produced on the same line as dairy-containing products, so it is not recommended for individuals with severe milk protein allergies.

The formula retains key ingredients such as sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts (13%), and cocoa, delivering a taste and texture highly similar to the classic version. However, the use of palm oil continues to raise sustainability concerns among some consumers. The product is currently not widely distributed in North America or the Chinese market.
