Recently, the T/CIFST 001-2020 Plant-based Meat Products group standard, led by the Chinese Society for Food Science and Technology, was released after being unanimously approved by the expert review committee, filling the industry gap in plant-based meat product standards.
At the beginning of this year, the Chinese Society for Food Science and Technology set up a group standard for “Plant-based Meat Products”. The institutions and enterprises that participated in the drafting of the group standards include China Agricultural University, Jiangnan University, and international companies such as Unilever, Cargill, and Nestlé. The types of enterprises include raw materials, processing and sales. Three squirrels, a snack food brand, also participated in the drafting. In strict accordance with the core points of the group standard, they discussed with many experts on the clear definition and attribute requirements of plant-based food and other standards and data.
According to this group standard, the definition of plant-based meat products is based on plant raw materials or processed products as the source of protein and fat, with or without other auxiliary materials and food additives, and processed products that resemble animals such as livestock, poultry, and aquatic products. Meat food with characteristics such as quality structure, flavor and shape.
In addition, the group standard also includes the definition of plant-based, raw materials and attributes of the final product, including the shape, smell, color, etc., and stipulates the basic requirements, technical requirements, inspection rules, labels, logos, Packaging, transportation and storage are the first standard specifications for plant-based meat products in the industry.
