IKEA Japan is holding a match-themed exhibition and introducing new match-themed desserts for the winter holidays.
In Japan, IKEA is not only a great place to enjoy affordable food but also the perfect place to decorate your home. Since opening, the IKEA restaurant and tea kiosk has won over many fans with its Swedish meatballs and ice cream. Now is the perfect time to visit an IKEA store in Japan to try their delicious dishes, as the matcha dessert festival has just kicked off!
The Matcha Festival has become an annual tradition for this chain. While its timing varies, it was held in the spring in 2023 and 2024, and this year it begins on November 20. Last year, the matcha afternoon tea set was upgraded to include a matcha tasting platter for 690 yen (approximately $4.60), which includes four different desserts for tasting and comparison. Matcha Mont Blanc (chestnut puree) and matcha chocolate cake are returning to the menu, and this year also saw the introduction of new dishes such as matcha crème d’anéjou (a mousse-like dessert made with whipped cream and meringue) and matcha butter sorbet.
If you’re looking for something special, you can opt for the Matcha Tiramisu Parfait (490 yen), which consists of layers of matcha sponge cake and tiramisu cream, topped with matcha powder.
Finally, although this matcha pudding is the cheapest of the bunch, at just 290 yen, it looks very tempting for green tea lovers. The matcha pudding is topped with a ring of whipped cream, a dollop of red bean paste (sweet red beans), and even more matcha powder.
While these matcha desserts are available at nearly all IKEA stores in Japan, please note that there are exceptions in Shinjuku, the Yokohama Bay area, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. The matcha dessert menu will remain available at all other IKEA stores until February 8, ensuring your Christmas will be a joyful and fragrant matcha experience.
